From the Revd Canon Angela Bailey
Dear Friends,
Many of you will have heard that I am to be appointed as your new Rector. There is a legal process which takes a while, and then there will be a service at All Hallows when I will formally take on the responsibility. The date for this is not yet fixed.
I am very much looking forward to playing my part in the mission and ministry of Christians in the village, and am beginning to get to know some of the people involved. The Revd Liz Allison, your Methodist Minister, and I have worked together before, when we were both Chaplains working in Mental Health. Liz is a very encouraging colleague and I am grateful to her for helping me discover what is going on in Walkington. I enjoyed seeing how the children’s holiday event, Meadows, was organised, and was glad to attend the Haydays Songs of Praise service at the Methodist Church.
I took my first school assembly here at the end of term. I have already had the privilege of taking a number of funerals and weddings at All Hallows and met many of you in those contexts.
The worshipping community at All Hallows, the Churchwardens and Parochial Church Council members have all been welcoming and helpful to me in discovering your priorities for Christian life and witness here in Walkington. There have been some small changes to the pattern of worship – e.g. moving the first Sunday of the month Family Service to 11am, reintroducing an 8 o’clock Book of Common Prayer Communion service on the third and fifth Sundays of each month – which will mean that we maintain a variety of styles of worship and also fit in with the commitments of those who lead worship across our new group of parishes. Full details of worship can be found elsewhere in this newsletter.
For ten years I have been the parish priest at Skidby and Rowley, living in Little Weighton. My work in Walkington will be in addition to this post. Last October I also became Rural Dean of Beverley. Prior to moving to Little Weighton I worked for most of eleven years as a chaplain at Hull University.
With the people at All Hallows I am committed to offering worship for and on behalf of the village, to being available for pastoral care and Christian teaching, and to sharing with other Christians the task of bearing witness to the reconciling love of God revealed in Jesus.
With every good wish.
Yours,
Angela Bailey.
