The Bowling Club can now boast a smart new changing room, an easily accessible toilet for the disabled and indoor male and female toilets. This has all been completed during the closed season and has cost almost half of the estimated price because the project has been managed 'in-house' and members have completed the work with support from local skilled tradesmen.

Walkington Parish Council, Beverley Lions, The Hull and East Riding Charitable Trust, and the Seanor family provided five thousand pounds in total towards the £27,000 cost of the project, the remainder of which was raised by club members including some sponsorship from SpecSavers Beverley.

The club welcomes new members who should contact Christine Elston in the first instance on 860336.

2008 News

The bowling season is all too soon coming to an end.  Club competition finals will take place over the weekend of 6/7 September.  These games are well worth watching and will commence on Saturday 6th at 11am.  Spectators are very welcome.

The ladies have had their most successful season so far with five qualifying for the National Championships which were held at Royal Leamington Spa during the first week in August.

Di Bielby competing in the over 55’s two wood singles made it to the last eight, but was unfortunately beaten in the quarter finals by international bowler Joyce Roylance, the eventual winner.

The ladies triples Sue Sugars, Alma Dickman and Margaret Hall were unfortunately beaten in the first round.  Sue and Alma made it through the first round of the ladies pairs but their progress was halted when they found themselves up against an international duo
Shirley Litten in the four wood singles fared better and made it to the last sixteen, with the atrocious weather helping to defeat her.

The men not to be out done celebrated Gil Roy winning through to represent the club in the men’s   over 55’s singles at Worthing later in August.

Meanwhile John Turgoose, Graham Stephenson, Tony Hall and Roger Sparkes won the fours championship in the Humberside County Competition at Kirmington.  The mens’ team are also due to compete against Fenners on 24th August for the Drayton Trophy in the Hunberside Bowling Association cup competition.  That result and the results of the mens national competition will be reported on next month.

The club are in the process of replenishing it’s coffers after the major building efforts of last winter.  A concert entitled ‘Ah yes I remember it well’ will be organised in the village hall on Saturday 7th November which will be open to the public.  Details regarding tickets and costs will be in the October newsletter.
