Walkington – Champions…Again!
Walkington Chess Club will have to expand their trophy room with another first place in the local summer league. This follows on from their triumph to win the winter 4 board first division.

In the final match of the summer season Mike Brookes & Chris Matthews both secured draws, then wins from John Andrews & Malcolm Hara ensured a 3-1 victory over St Andrews, which was enough to clinch the title. In June 2007 Walkington Chess Club were presented with the Hull & District Chess Association RP Ross 4 Board Division 1 Trophy, just edging out Bridlington. It is a great achievement for a small club.
Furthermore, the return of John Andrews saw him presented with the HDCA Division 1 Player of the Year Award. Alas, team captain Mike Brookes narrowly missed out the Individual Knock-out trophy, losing in the final.
The new winter season begins in October and we are looking for new players to join the fold, we are also planning a Walkington Chess Tournament over the year for all members.
We are looking forward to the new winter league & cup competitions – our home matches are played Upstairs at the Village Hall – we would like to encourage new players or re-ignite lapsed players.
If you are interested in getting involved to play for fun, learn more and or play competitively please
