A very warm welcome to all our visitors, regular, occasional and 'first timers'.
To see a 'slide show' tour of the village and surrounding area, go to the About Us page, which also gives an update on current weather conditions in the area.

Signs of Summer. It seems a long time since the swans on the pond began to nest on the island but their patience has been rewarded and they have successfully hatched six cygnets. There are also a number of young ducks and moorhens who have survived the first few weeks of life.
The above slide-show of recent pictures includes several shots of the swans while they were nesting and with their growing family.

The Walkington Newsletter is 50 this year

There was a special 50th anniversary edition of the Newsletter in May: there are some surplus copies available (for a small charge) so contact us if you would like to have one.

On Saturday May 15th there was a celebration day in the Methodist schoolroom from 10.00am to 3.00pm. Tea, coffee and cakes were served all day. We were delighted by the turnout for this event - the hall was buzzing from start to finish!

There was an excellent display of Newsletter/village memorabilia and an opportunity to meet with representatives of village organisations.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of the event.

The Walkington Newsletter has for 50 years been a vital source of local information as well as a way for everyone in the village to keep up to date with local events. It is entirely staffed by volunteers and distributed free of charge to every home in the village.
This website edition provides an opportunity for regular updates about what is happening between issues of the Walkington Newsletter and also enables the many organisations within the village to give more information about their activities than would normally be possible. I am aware that some of these items are out of date. If organisation representatives wish to contact me with up-dated information I will be delighted to add it to their page.

Alan Hardy, who was the creator and caretaker of this website, sadly passed away in September 2008.
The website goes on, so please continue to send village information in the usual way (see the Contact Us page).

The new website

This site is a new version which  supersedes the site that was developed over 6 or 7 years.  The 'Freeserve' site became limiting as time went on, with restrictions on the volume of content whereas this option brings everything together under one banner.

For the moment the original site remains at Walkington News.
