Where to shop, eat and drink (and stay)?
There are three Public Houses In Walkington, The Barrel, The Ferguson Fawsitt and The Dog & Duck. There was also a small country hotel, the Manor House but this has now closed although there are other accomodation facilities available (see below).
There is also a shop that provides essential support to village life.
Costcutter
Michelle Horsley took over as Manager in February 2008. Then, the shop was owned by Ebor Food Markets, but in April 2008, it was taken over by the family firm D&S Retail (they also own shops in Cherry Burton, Leven, Skirlaugh and Brandesburton and are based in Ladygate, Beverley).
There has been a major refit which took place during July and August 2008. New floor, new counter, new tills, new freezers and chillers, heightened ceiling near the Post Office to make it an integral part of the shop. As D&S Retail is a small family business, they are trying to focus on locally sourced produce; for example, the eggs come from Warcups in Beeford, and the very popular bread/pasties/cream cakes are from Cooplands in Scarborough.

The Barrel
Owned by Thwaites, The Barrel is the smallest of the three is very much a drinkers' pub and emphasis is on the range of beers and simple food.
Entertainment is provided through the large screen TV showing live sporting events.
