Walkington Playing Fields’ Improvement Plans
Have Your Say!
Walkington Playing Fields Association is a charity run by local volunteers who work hard to raise funds all year round. Their aim is to keep the Playing Fields alive as a space for villagers to use and enjoy.

This year we hope to begin a fundraising process to resurface the Tennis courts, modernise the Play Park and refurbish the pavilion. There is the possibility to put an all-weather surface on the courts that can be used, not only for Tennis, but by a host of sports teams. The aim is also to be able to make the play park better with new equipment.

Our ideas are in their infancy and we are working in partnership with East Riding Council as well as a number of other local organisations to develop them. But we would like to hear from Walkington Residents, to find out how we can provide something Walkington wants, and can be proud of.

So we are asking you to tell us what you would like to see up at the Playing Fields through a questionnaire that will be coming through your door in the next few weeks. Please get all your family members, young and old, together to answer the questions. In doing this you can help ensure these projects are a success and an important contribution to our community.

Full details will be included in the envelope that comes through your door soon – so look out for it!

Protect What We Have!

Every year, for a few years now, the Pavilion and Park have been subjected to vandalism, the bills for which run into thousands of pounds.

The Playing Fields is not a Council run amenity, the money does not come out of thin air. Current quotes to get the park back, just to its original state, are almost £2000. Each week this increases as a small minority of people chip away at the surfaces, and abuse the equipment.

The project to try and renew the park and courts may be a long road of fundraising and hard work. We don’t want it to be in vain, to be just something else to wreck.

If you are bored and need something to do in the village, get behind us, speak up and let us know what you want.

But in the mean time - please protect what we have.
