Local Policing In Walkington
My name is Phil Pickering. I am a police officer of 30 years experience, spent mainly in the rural parts of the East Riding. I was born at Scorborough and lived at Lockington until I married Val, a Beverley lass, in 1985. We moved to Leven where we currently live with our two sons aged 19 and 16. My role is that of Neighbourhood Beat Manager for the Beverley Rural Area.

Local Policing

The area is made up of all the villages north of the town to Middleton, east across to Leven and west to include North and South Newbald. I am assisted in my duties by PCSO (Police Community Support Officer) Jo Finon. She will eventually be joined by a second PCSO and as a team, supported by colleagues from the Beverley cluster, we intend delivering a highly visible presence within the villages.

During the coming months we hope to get to know members of your community. Our purpose is to deal with matters that would not normally require an immediate police response. With our partners at the ERYC Anti Social Behaviour Team, we will tackle issues of ASB in the communities. We will provide information to village representatives on a regular basis, highlighting issues throughout the year and keeping you informed of any crime patterns etc.

I welcome contact from members of the community. PLEASE GET IN TOUCH IF YOU HAVE ANY NON-URGENT MATTERS. Email or phone: 0845 60 60 222 (Extension 5811 – use voicemail if no answer)

Mobile Phone Serial Numbers

All mobile phones have a personal serial number. You can access this by keying in the following digits on your phone. *#06# - a fifteen-digit code then appears on your screen. That number is unique to your handset; write it down and keep it somewhere safe. Should your phone get stolen you can contact your service provider and give them the code. They will then be able to block your handset even if the thief changes the Sim card, your phone will be totally useless. You probably won't get your phone back but at least you'll have the satisfaction of knowing that whoever stole it can't use it or sell it for unlawful use. If everyone did this there would be no point in stealing mobile phones.

Messages From Your Local Bobby…..

POSTAL SCAM

The following postal scam, originating from Belize, has been confirmed by the Royal Mail. Trading Standards Officers are advising people of this deception. A card is posted through your door from a company called PDS (Parcel Delivery Service) suggesting that they were unable to deliver a parcel and that you need to contact them on: 0906 6611911, which is a premium rate number. DO NOT CALL this number because if you do you will hear a recorded message and then be charged £15 for the phone call.

If you do receive a card with these details, then please contact Royal Mail Fraud on 02072396655, or contact ICSTIS (the premium rate service regulator) at  or telephone: 0800 500212

A “Fairway” to tackle nuisance and disorder

Police in the East Riding are running a campaign to target anti social behaviour. The “Fairway” campaign has been launched in response to concerns from the public who are are worried about the nuisance caused by some groups of children. Its aim is to intervene before minor problems develop into serious incidents. Under the scheme, the parents of any child who comes to the attention of the police for behaving inappropriately will receive a letter outlining the reported behaviour of their child. This will be the end of the matter unless the child continues to misbehave. If this is the case, a final warning letter will be sent out which will be followed by more serious sanctions, such as the application for an Anti Social Behaviour Order. PC Annie Reed said: “We need to ensure that parents know where their children are and what they are getting up to. This scheme is about dealing with public complaints in a way that is appropriate and fair. We hope the public will support us and that parents will work with us to ensure that their children don’t get into trouble.”
