Walkington Playing Field
The Playing Field and Pavilion at the top of Beech View is the centre of sporting activity in Walkington. It is held in trust for the village, run by volunteers and is a registered charity. It currently supports thriving Football, Cricket and Tennis clubs. There is also a children's play area and on the first Sunday of each month in summer the field buzzes with activity at the popular car boot sales.

Vandalism

Over the past 12 months the playing fields has suffered at the hands of vandals and from general anti-social behaviour including rallying vehicles across the playing fields.

On the advice of the Police and at the request and support of local residents we have installed a security post at the entrance to the playing fields. This post will be raised in the evening and lowered in the morning. The Playing Fields Committee would like to thank Walkington based J&H Building Services for sourcing and installing the post for free.

If you see anyone damaging the play area, the Pavilion or the pitches, please report it to the Police on 0845 60 60 222.

What's going on at Walkington Playing Fields?

The Beech View playing fields have become ever more popular, with three football teams, cricket and rugby teams all playing regularly. The impact on the playing surfaces has been high, with the worst wear occurring on the football pitch. This is made worse by the car boot sales, which still form the highest proportion of the income used to keep the facilities going. We have plans for yet more teams, especially for younger enthusiasts, such as football for the under 9s and therefore the logical step is to expand the playing areas. With the co-operation of local landowners, it is hoped that land adjacent to the existing field can be purchased. It is very early days, but an outline planning application is being lodged with the council. If this is positive, and we can raise the substantial amount of money required, it is hoped that two new pitches can be provided, further enhancing the sporting facilities available to the whole village.

If you have any comments or suggestions on fund raising, please call Dave Tuffs on (867947) or
email Dave.
