Walkington Tennis Club
There has been a Tennis Club in Walkington since 1944 playing at different locations over the years. At present we have three hard courts on the playing fields. There is nothing nicer than playing a game of tennis up there on a summer's evening when the sun is shining, the birds are singing and there is no sound of traffic.

Senior £40
Student £15
Junior £10

Membership

Our current membership is very small with approximately 30 adult members and 12 junior members. Membership is not limited to Walkington residents but also to Beverley and surrounding villages. Sunday mornings and Tuesday evenings during the season are social tennis times when players can come along and be assured of a game. At other times members are free to use the courts for their own games. We have teams that play in the Hull and District Lawn Tennis League. Also we shall run a club tournament including men's doubles and singles, ladies' doubles and singles and mixed doubles, throughout the season. Coaching for juniors will run this season starting in May.

We are a fee paying club with members paying a modest annual subscription. The subs cover the upkeep of the courts, new nets, new netting, league fees and the cost of tennis balls. As it is not feasible for us to lock the courts, people who play without being members are using these facilities unfairly. The playing surface is a specialised surface that is not meant for skateboards, roller skates, bikes or football studs and without the constant maintenance, that a small dedicated group of members keep up, the courts would soon fall into disrepair.

Interested?

If you are interested in joining our small friendly club, whatever your standard of play, we would be pleased to see you at any social tennis session. The courts are located in the far corner of the playing fields. Further information about the club can be obtained by ringing Phil Clayton 862527 or Pam Sleap 860815.
