Walkington Wanderers Football Club
Several years ago Roger Waudby, Leigh Palin, Phil & Avril Tibbetts reformed the combined village football club and since then nearly 60 local lads have been playing football based at the Playing Fields. It can sometimes be difficult to retain village lads due to the attraction of more established clubs in Beverley and beyond, that is why its superb that the village have an under 18's Sunday League team - coach Mark Harrison, an Under 14's team – coach Trevor Spencer, an under 10's team – coach Simon King and an under 9's team – coach Chris Cook. Despite being in the lower leagues the club already has players selected to play in Hull Boys Sunday Football League rep side and currently trialing for Hull City boys side..

Under 10's

Walkington Wanderers Under 10's are currently looking to recruit more players (girls & boys) to join our existing squad as we progress from mini-soccer to 11 a side in September.  Players should be 10 but under 11 on the 31st August.  For more details contact Paula or Simon King (873943).

From Walkington Wanderers To Hull City - Success For Village Lad

Congratulations to Tom Tibble from Broadgate, who recently won a place in the Hull City Centre of Excellence's Under 13 football squad!  For the past 3 years Tom (13) has been based at the playing fields as a midfielder for Walkington Wanderers. The move reflects not only his natural agility and ability but his footballing development whilst representing the village on Sundays and at 5 a side at Warners in Hull.

Tom also enjoyed the more informal occasions playing footy with the Dad’s on Saturday mornings- until this was stopped after he collided with his father, John, breaking his nose and both being taken to HRI! Luckily they survived and John instead thought it best he focus his energies on a strict training regime for Tom, which has helped in the selection to Hull City Boys.

Particular praise should however go to Trevor Spencer, who has been coaching the current Walkington U14s for the last 3 years.  Trevor has fostered skill, team-work and self-discipline in the squad, developing the range of talents that the lads possess and aiming to win games by playing good football. It is also to Trevor's great credit that he encourages individual and team development for the local village lads rather than simply poaching star players from other Sunday Football League squads.

The team will miss Tom’s solid midfield, curling freekicks and calmness under pressure, but are now concentrating their efforts on building a new strong midfield.

Trevor is pictured with Tom who came to support his old team mates after a home match last month- but instead spent listening to some more tips from his former coach!
